What is “PCS”?

PCS (Power Conversion System) can control the charging and discharging process of the battery, carry out AC/DC conversion, and directly supply power to AC loads in the absence of power grid.PCS consists of DC/AC bi-directional converter, control unit, etc. PCS controller receives the backstage control instruction through communication, and controls the converter to charge or discharge the battery to realize the regulation of active power and reactive power to the power grid according to the symbols and sizes of the power commands. The PCS controller receives the background control instructions through communication and controls the converter to charge or discharge the battery according to the sign and size of the power instruction, so as to realize the regulation of the active power and reactive power of the power grid. The PCS controller communicates with the BMS through the CAN interface to obtain the status information of the battery pack, which can realize the protective charging and discharging of the battery and ensure the safety of battery operation.

PCS control unit: Make the right moves :

The core of each PCS is the control unit, which receives background control instructions through communication channels. The intelligent controller interprets these instructions precisely, allowing it to indicate charging or discharging of the battery based on the sign and magnitude of the power command. Most importantly, the PCS control unit actively regulates the active and reactive power of the grid to ensure optimal operating efficiency.  Seamless communication between the PCS controller and the battery management system (BMS) via the CAN interface further enhances its functionality.

Protecting battery performance: ensuring safety :

The connection between the PCS controller and the BMS plays a vital role in protecting battery operation. Via the CAN interface, the PCS controller collects valuable real-time information about the status of the battery pack. With this knowledge, it can implement protective measures during charging and discharging. By closely monitoring key parameters such as temperature, voltage and current, PCS controllers reduce the risk of overcharging or undercharging, preventing potential damage to the battery. This enhanced safety not only extends the life of the battery but also minimizes the chance of unforeseen events, helping to provide a more sustainable and reliable energy storage solution.

Power conversion systems (PCS) have revolutionized the way we store and utilize energy. With its powerful capabilities in controlling charging and discharging processes, performing AC to DC conversion, and independently supplying power to AC loads, PCS has become the cornerstone of modern energy storage systems.  Seamless communication between the PCS control unit and the BMS enables protective charging and discharging to ensure the safe operation of the battery. When we harness the power of PCS, we pave the way for a more sustainable future where renewable energy can be stored and harvested with the highest efficiency and reliability.
